Analytics & Metrics Reference

This page explains, in plain language, exactly what each number means wherever you see it across Academic Rankings, Teacher Performance, House Analytics, and Academic Office. Every figure below is calculated from real recorded activity — nothing is estimated or guessed.

Academic Rankings

Highest / Lowest score — the top and bottom scores recorded for whatever you're looking at (a class, a subject, a whole school), for the current scope and term.

Median score — the middle score when every score in the scope is lined up from lowest to highest. Less affected by one unusually high or low result than the average.

Mean (average) score — the sum of every score in the scope, divided by how many there are.

Pass rate / Fail rate — the percentage of individual subject scores in the scope that are at or above (pass) or below (fail) that subject's configured pass mark. These two always add up to 100% of the scores counted.

Grade distribution — a breakdown of how many scores in the scope fell into each grade (A, B, C, and so on), using your school's currently active Grading Scale.

Class Ranking — where a student stands compared to their own classmates, based on their overall term performance.

Subject Ranking — where a student (or a whole class) stands in one specific subject, compared to everyone else taking that subject.

Most Improved — compares a student's ranking value this term against their own value from the immediately preceding term, and highlights the biggest positive change. A student's very first tracked term always shows "New" rather than a fabricated comparison.

Competitive Insight — the simplified version of the above shown to students and parents: current position and whether it has moved up, down, or stayed the same since the previous term.

Teacher Performance

Teacher Performance is an analytics tool, not a punitive measure — it exists to surface real patterns, never to rank a teacher on anything they weren't actually responsible for.

Pass rate — the percentage of subject scores, across every class and subject a teacher is assigned to for the term, that are at or above that subject's pass mark. This is the number teachers are primarily ranked by.

Average score — the mean of the same raw subject scores the pass rate is calculated from.

Improvement — this term's pass rate minus the teacher's own pass rate from the immediately preceding tracked term. Shows "New" instead of a number when there's no prior term to compare against.

Attendance compliance — the percentage of days a teacher marked their class's attendance on time, without needing the system's automatic fallback to step in.

Lesson note compliance — the percentage of expected lesson notes a teacher submitted on time.

Assessment compliance — the percentage of expected score-entry deadlines a teacher met for their assigned subjects.

Overall score — a weighted blend of every category above that actually applies to a given teacher (a teacher with no assigned class, for example, isn't scored on attendance compliance at all), using the weights your school has configured.

A category showing "N/A" for a particular teacher means that category genuinely doesn't apply to their current responsibilities — never that their score was poor.

House Analytics

Population — the number of students currently assigned to a House.

Average score — the mean academic ranking value across every student in that House who currently has a published ranking. Shows as unavailable for a brand-new House, or before rankings are published for the current term — never shown as a fabricated zero.

Commendations — the count of positive recognitions (awards, honour roll entries, etc.) earned by students in that House.

Points — the running total from the House's own points ledger — awarded or deducted manually by a school administrator with a reason attached to every entry.

Composite score — a single weighted score combining academic performance, commendations, and points, used to rank Houses against each other on the House Analytics leaderboard.

Academic Office Concepts

CA / Exam weighting — each subject's Assessment Template defines what percentage of the final grade comes from Continuous Assessment (classwork, homework, tests) versus the Examination. A template must be published before it takes effect.

Grading bands — the score ranges that map to each letter/number grade (e.g. 80–100% = A1). Bands must cover the full 0–100% range with no gaps, and every grading scale is versioned so a score is always graded — and stays graded, permanently — by the exact version of the scale that was active when it was calculated.

Promotion Rules — the school-wide criteria (minimum overall average, minimum subject pass mark, maximum number of failed subjects still allowed) that the Academic Year Transition uses to decide, automatically and consistently, whether each student is promoted, held back, or moved on a probationary basis.
