Child & Student Privacy Notice
Effective and Last Updated: July 15, 2026
1. For Students and Families
SMIK-Af helps schools manage learning and school activities. This notice explains in plain language what may happen to a student's information. The full Privacy Policy also applies.
2. What We May Hold
A school may use SMIK-Af for a student's name, contact details, photograph, class, attendance, assignments, marks, report cards, behaviour, awards, fees, library activity, hostel information, transport location, complaints, safety incidents, messages, and forum activity. The app also creates login, security, and audit records.
3. Why It Is Used
Information is used to teach and support students, communicate with families, keep school records, protect safety, organise school services, collect fees, investigate concerns, and secure the Platform. Student information is not sold and is not used for behavioural advertising.
4. Who Can See It
Only people with an authorised reason should see student information. This may include the student, an authorised parent or guardian, teachers, school administrators, nurses, finance or security personnel, SMIK-Af support personnel when necessary, and authorities where law or safety requires. Different roles see different information.
5. Your Choices and Rights
Students and families may ask the school what it holds, correct inaccurate information, and exercise other rights available under national law. Some official school, financial, disciplinary, safeguarding, or health records cannot be deleted immediately. A parent or guardian may need to prove authority. Students capable of expressing a view should be heard in decisions affecting them, consistent with age, maturity, safety, and local law.
6. Forums, Messages and Images
Never post passwords, home addresses, health details, private school records, sexual content, threats, or another person's image without permission. School and platform moderators may review or remove content for safety. Report bullying, grooming, exploitation, threats, or inappropriate contact immediately to a trusted adult and the school.
7. Location
Transport location may be visible to authorised users when a school enables tracking. It may be delayed and is not an emergency service.
8. Safety and Help
In an emergency, contact local emergency services and the school; do not rely only on an app message. Privacy or safety questions may be sent to the school or office.smikaf@gmail.com. Do not email sensitive records unless a secure method is provided.
9. African Child-Rights Baseline
SMIK-Af supports the principles of best interests, dignity, non-discrimination, education, privacy, participation, and protection reflected in the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child. National child and education law in the student's country controls.
